At Vital Edge Medical Billing Solutions LLC, we are committed to protecting the privacy and security of your health information. We comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which establishes\n national standards for the use and disclosure of protected health information (PHI) by health care providers, health plans, and health care clearinghouses. We also comply with the HIPAA Security Rule, which sets forth the technical\n and administrative safeguards that we must implement to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic PHI (e-PHI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a medical billing company, we act as a business associate of our covered entity clients, such as physicians, hospitals, and clinics. This means that we provide certain services that involve the access, use, or disclosure of PHI\n or e-PHI on behalf of, or to provide services to, our clients. As a business associate, we are required to enter into a written contract with each of our clients, called a business associate agreement (BAA), that specifies our obligations\n and responsibilities to protect the privacy and security of PHI and e-PHI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the HIPAA compliance and guidelines that we follow at our company are:
\u2022 We limit the access, use, and disclosure of PHI and e-PHI to the minimum necessary to perform our services, such as billing, coding, claims processing, and payment collection.
\u2022 We train our staff on the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and ensure that they are aware of their duties and obligations to protect PHI and e-PHI.
\u2022 We implement physical, technical, and administrative safeguards to prevent unauthorized or accidental access, use, disclosure, modification, or destruction of PHI and e-PHI. These include locks, passwords, encryption, firewalls, antivirus software, backup systems, audits, policies, and procedures.
\u2022 We report any breach or suspected breach of PHI or e-PHI to our clients and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as soon as possible, and take appropriate steps to mitigate the harm and prevent recurrence.
